Government Support of Religion

Ezra revealed that Cyrus, king of Persia, gave full support to the Jews to rebuild their temple that Babylon had destroyed. He decreed that whatever the Jews needed for rebuilding the temple, “Let the cost be paid at the king’s expense from taxes on the region beyond the River; this is to be given immediately to these men, so that they are not hindered” (Ezra 6:8).
Cyrus had also said that whatever the Jews needed for sacrifices should be given to the Jews without fail (Ezra 6:9), and his motivation for that was this, “that they may offer sacrifices of sweet aroma to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and his sons” (Ezra 6:10).
Cyrus knew that what the Jews could do for Persia was greater than what Persia could do for the Jews.
May every government in the world recognize the same thing, that in blessing the church, the church can bless governments in far greater ways.
