Eager for a New Leader

A wicked king ruled over Israel, but God had Elisha send a messenger to anoint Jehu as the new king. The messenger anointed Jehu in private, and others wondered why the messenger took Jehu into another room. When the others asked Jehu what the messenger wanted, he told them that the messenger anointed Jehu as the new king, “Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, ‘Jehu is king!'” (2 Kings 9:13).
There is always hope embodied in a new leader, and sometimes things work out and sometimes they do not. Jehu initially did what the Lord wanted done, but then turned to the idolatry of Jeroboam.
It is important to recognize leaders and to support them as the Lord does. However, let us remember that human leaders are just that, human. The Lord rules in the nations of the world.
