Why Do We Fail to Consult God?

The king of Israel became deathly ill. Therefore, he sent messengers to inquire of the god of Ekron about the illness, whether the king would recover or die. However, the messengers did not go all the way, because Elijah confronted them and told them that their king would die. When the messengers returned to the king, he wanted to know why they had returned so soon, “So they said to him, ‘A man came up to meet us, and said to us, “Go, return to the king who sent you, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die”‘”‘” (2 Kings 1:6).
While we may not inquire of another god, yet, sometimes we fail to inquire of the God whom we say we believe and in whose hands we have committed our lives. Let us always speak to Him about the affairs of our lives.
