Earthquake Ready

BridgeDamage.jpgI was there when the Northridge earthquake struck the Los Angeles region. I sat up straight in bed, and was shoved right back in it by the earth’s movement.
When I woke up the next morning, I listened on a tiny radio (telephones and television were out) to the destruction as it was being discovered.
I remember the comment of an engineer as he saw all those highway overpasses lying prostrate on the ground. “Most of these overpasses,” he declared, “were earthquake safe!”
We think we’re so smart! The best technology, the brightest minds, and a rather minor (6.4 on the Richter scale) earthquake beat the best we could do!
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death,” (Proverbs 14:12, ESV).
In the twenty-first century, have we become any wiser? Has humanity “whipped” such primitive and base emotions as greed, racism and violence?
Yet we still insist on doing things our own way, without consulting God. Has there ever been a society that is so smart technologically, and so stupid Biblically?
I suppose it takes something like a little shaking of the earth, a flood, or a drought to remind us that we are, after all, merely creatures. God alone is the creator!
Don’t get all shook up. Begin instead, to look up!
