Communion Around the World

by Jeff. A. Jenkins
Last week I was preaching in a Gospel meeting in another state. On Sunday morning during the worship assembly I began thinking about how much I missed being with the people who are a part of my home congregation.
The people where we worship regularly have become very special to us during the past six years. We look forward to seeing them because of the encouragement we receive every time we gather.
It crossed my mind that while we were separated by several hundred miles, we were still bound together by the common fellowship that we enjoy in Christ.
At the very hour that I was observing the Lord’s Supper in one state, my wife, my daughter, my son, and the hundreds of Christians back home, were all observing the communion in different states.
What a precious promise from God’s Book that teaches that we are all one in Christ Jesus. Our “oneness,” is not based on the fact that we are meeting together in the same building, the same city, or the same state, or even the same country.
Our unity is because we are in Christ. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all who were baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Galatians 3:26-27). The Apostle John said, “If we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another…” (1 John 1:7).
This week as we observe the communion we should keep in mind that we are in fellowship, not just with those who are in the building with us, but with our brothers and sisters around the world.
Thank God for the precious blood of his Son that cleanses us from our sins and makes us one. Because of that indescribable gift, may we all, “Be diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:3)

  1. Brother Jeff;
    what you stated in this article is a fact and honest truth. many times, I wonder how we all who worship in various places, retain our unity and oneness. But, through Communion, giving of our means, prayers, singing, and more, we profess to the world that we are one.
    But, Most importantly, is the love we should have for one another though in distant locations of the world.
