Cling to God's Covenant

God told David that a man who rules others must be just and that ruler shall be a blessing to his people (2 Samuel 23:3, 4). However, David looked at the latter years of his family and saw turmoil, leading him to say,
“Although my house is not so with God,
Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant,
Ordered in all things and secure.
For this is all my salvation and all my desire;
Will He not make it increase?”
(2 Samuel 23:5)
David did not see the blessings of verse 4, but in contrast to that he knew that God had made an everlasting covenant with David, leading to the coming of the Messiah. Therefore, David clung to the covenant of God, expressing that all David’s desire could be summed up in the promises of God.
Let our lives be so ordered!
