David Hurt Himself

The Lord told David that for his sin of murdering Uriah and committing adultery with Bathsheba conflict would not depart from David’s house. David even set up situations where conflict would happen without knowing it. For example, his son Amnon wanted his half-sister Tamar, so he pretended to be sick. David did this, “And David sent home to Tamar, saying, ‘Now go to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.’ So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. Then she took flour and kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes” (2 Samuel 13:7-8).
What a kind thing both David and Tamar did, but Amnon then raped his half-sister Tamar. Because of that Tamar’s full-brother Absalom killed Amnon, and because of that David and Absalom had troubles in their relationship.
The Lord allowed these things to happen because of David’s sins.
Oh, my friends, let us guard ourselves from sin. Yes, the Lord can forgive us of our sins, but that does not mean we shall escape the consequences of some of our sins.
