Michael Stands Up For God's People

Look at how Daniel 12 begins,
“At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.”
(Daniel 12:1)
The events of chapter 12 are still dealing with the events of chapter 11, which was not about the events surrounding the Second Coming of Christ, but about the events previous to His first arrival to earth! Therefore, what follows has to be interpreted in that light.
Michael shall stand up and there shall be a time of trouble. The heavenly being who revealed these things to Daniel identified when these things would take place. Much of Daniel prophesied of the reign of Antiochus. There is no reason to jump thousands of years into the future between 11:45 and 12:1.
When the Jew-hating Antiochus worked his evil, God’s people would not be alone, but Michael the arch-angel would stand up for God’s people, not to remove persecution and suffering, but to deliver them at God’s appointed time, because their names were written in the book.
While we cannot always understand the proper interpretation of a text, we can know that God is with us.
