Time to Leave Babylon

There was a time to flee to Babylon, and there was a time to flee from Babylon. Jeremiah dealt with both situations. Of the latter, he wrote,
“Flee from the midst of Babylon,
And every one save his life!
Do not be cut off in her iniquity,
For this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance;
He shall recompense her.”
(Jeremiah 51:6)
The Lord had used Babylon to accomplish His purposes so that she was like a golden cup in His hands, but Babylon had its own sins and after the Lord used the nation to punish other nations, she had to meet the consequences of her own sin.
Therefore, at the time of vengeance, Babylon would fall suddenly and history shows that is precisely what happened, although the Lord still held out hope for her, saying,
“Wail for her!
Take balm for her pain;
Perhaps she may be healed.”
(Jeremiah 51:7-8)
God brings down even the mightiest of the mighty when they do not conform to His will.
Let each of us drive ourselves to know the will of God and to live it with everything that is within us.
