Compassion on Fellow-Sinners

As the writer of the Book of Hebrews began to set up his argument that Jesus did not have to make a sacrifice for Himself, since He was sinless, the writer said of the Levitical priests, “He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins” (Hebrews 5:2-3).
The priest himself was a sinner just like the people for whom he made sacrifices. Therefore, he could have compassion on those people.
How often do we Christians have compassion on sinners? Often our first response is condemnation, as though we have never sinned and never needed compassion from the Lord.
Watch yourself today and see whether you have compassion on the sinners of the world and those in the church.
