Keeping Everything Above Board

When it comes to dealing with other people’s money, we have to be very careful, even in the church. Therefore, after Paul instructed the Corinthian Church that they needed to contribute every first day of the week, saving money to send to Jerusalem, he then said, “And when I come, whomever you approve by your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem. But if it is fitting that I go also, they will go with me” (1 Corinthians 16:3-4).
Paul thought it wise to have one of the members at Corinth bear the gift to Jerusalem, and if they wanted Paul to do so also, he would go. He did not want to handle the money alone, lest someone accuse him of taking some of the money.
Every church treasurer ought to be very careful with the weekly contribution and make sure that someone else always knows the money situation, lest accusations start to fly.
