Do Not Make Too Much Out of Men

An angel told Cornelius to send for Peter who would speak the words of salvation. Put yourself in the position of Cornelius. If an angel told you to send for a certain man and that man would speak the words that would lead to your salvation, what would you think of that man? You can tell what Cornelius thought, “As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, ‘Stand up; I myself am also a man'” (Acts 10:25-26).
In the mind of Cornelius, Peter had to be someone worthy of worship that an angel would defer to him. However, God wants man to speak to man the words of salvation. Peter was just like Cornelius, except that Peter was already saved and knew how to tell Cornelius about it.
Peter had wanted to honor Moses and Elijah on a level with Jesus during His ministry and God corrected Peter. He learned the lesson. Do we need to learn the lesson? Have you exalted someone higher than he or she should be?
