In 1998, the American Psychological Association (APA) claimed that, “There is considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person’s sexuality.”
However, something significant happened in the past decade. The gene disappeared.
In 2009, the APA wriote the following reply to the question, “What causes a person to have a particular sexual orientation?”/1
Their current answer is quite interesting:
“There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.”/2
Where did the gene go?
Dr. Francis S. Collins led the successful effort to complete the “Human Genome Project (HGP), a complex multidisciplinary scientific enterprise directed at mapping and sequencing all of the human DNA.”/3 Dr. Collins received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work.
Dr. Collins discussed whether homosexuality was genetic. He concluded that, “sexual orientation is genetically influenced but not hardwired by DNA, and that whatever genes are involved represent predispositions, not predeterminations.”/4
Peter Tatchell, an Australian-born British homosexual activist wrote, “Genes and hormones may predispose a person to one sexuality rather than another. But that’s all. Predisposition and determination are two different things.”/5
“People need to understand that the ‘gay gene’ theory has been one of the biggest propaganda boons of the homosexual movement over the last 10 [or] 15 years. Studies show that if people think that people are born homosexual they’re much less likely to resist the gay agenda.”/6
The debate still rages across the globe as scientists and activists fight to find this genetic link. However, God, the Creator, who knows humanity better than anyone else does, says that homosexuality is contrary to nature.
God’s Word says,
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Romans 1:26-27, NKJV).
The Apostle Paul, by inspiration of God, wrote that sinful man exchanged the truth of God’s plan for humanity for the fruits of sin. Men exchanged God for idols (Romans 1:23-25) and God’s plan for sex with same-sex relationships (Romans 1:26-27). The word “exchanged” means to replace one thing with another. Hence, an exchange of natural sex relations for those that are contrary to nature.
God knew what was in man and knew that we could overcome any sin through Christ (Philippians 4:13; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
Why would we wish to stand against God and do that which is sinful, no matter what it is? We have the choice to sin or to reject it. Homosexuality is no exception.
