Can We Decide When to Die?

Elijah had given his life for Israel in his service to God, yet, it seemed to no avail, because the queen of Israel had him in her target and promised to kill him. Therefore, he ran away, “But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, ‘It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!'” (1 Kings 19:4).
The prophet was discouraged enough that he decided it was time to die. Could he make that decision? No, for the Lord let him live, because He had other plans for Elijah.
Many people get discouraged or depressed about life and decide it is time to die, but that decision does not belong to us, rather it belongs to Him who gave us life. We may see no reason for continuing, but that is because our vision is limited. Trust your life to Him who made you and who made the world and continues to run the world.
