Forever Loyal

Jesus revealed to Peter that Satan had asked to sift Peter as wheat, and then the Lord said that when Peter had returned, he should strengthen his brethren, implying that he would temporarily fall away. He did not like hearing that, so he said, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death” (Luke 22:33).
We have no reason to doubt Peter’s sincerity at that moment, but he did not know what approached him rapidly. The coming test would require a degree of faithfulness and loyalty from Peter that he thought he had, but did not. Later in his life he would have what he needed.
Let us not overestimate our abilities for the future, but let us work on improving the kind of disciples we are now and then we shall be what we need to be later.
