Before the Altar

After Israel entered the land, they were to take some of the produce of the land and bring it to the priest, “Then the priest shall take the basket out of your hand and set it down before the altar of the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 26:4).
See the priest taking the basket and placing it before the altar as an offering to the Lord. See your weekly contribution the same way. You take some of what you have earned and you place it in the collection plate, in a sense before the altar, and the Lord accepts it and does wonderful things with it.
Israel gave of the produce of the land, reminding them that the Lord gave them the land, and He could give them many blessings or take them all away. Likewise, give every first day of the week, remembering that you have money to give because the Lord has blessed you with it, and He could give you many blessings or take them away.
