Do Not Defile That Which Is Holy

The Lord wanted Moses to speak to Aaron and his sons, that is, to the high priests, “Say to them: ‘Whoever of all your descendants throughout your generations, who goes near the holy things which the children of Israel dedicate to the LORD, while he has uncleanness upon him, that person shall be cut off from My presence: I am the LORD'” (Leviticus 22:3).
The high priests made a connection between the people and the Lord. Therefore, they had to keep the holy, holy, and to keep the unclean away from the holy. If they defiled the holy things, then their works as high priests became invalid, and that meant the people could not be sanctified before the Lord.
When you pray for someone, be sure that you have made yourself holy before the Lord so that your prayer may be effectual.
