A Grim Scene

The Romans took Jesus to the place of crucifixion, making Him carry His own cross. Then Matthew wrote, “And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull, they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink” (Matthew 27:33-34).
Everything about the crucifixion of Jesus frightens and horrifies me. Even the name they gave the place paints a grim picture. How would you like for the place where you eventually die to be named the Place of a Skull? We want death to be quick and pleasant, but somehow going to the Place of a Skull does not sound quick and pleasant, but slow and torturous.
They offered to delude the experience for Him, offering sour wine mingled with gall, but He did not want it. He did not leave heaven, my friends, come to the Earth, and head for the cross, only to have the experience deadened.
He came to feel the full experience of the wrath of God upon our sins. Would you think on what happened that day the rest of this day.
