Contrary Winds

Jesus sent His disciples away in a boat while He stayed behind with the multitudes and prayed to His Father. Matthew wrote of what happened next, “But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary” (Matthew 14:24).
Now get this. Jesus had sent them away. He had sent them into that storm. He knew what would happen. Nevertheless, He sent them onto a dark, wind-tossed lake.
He did it that they might see His power, that they would learn He knew of their situation, and that they could also trust Him.
As the world suffers from the wind-tossed economy, many seek to blame someone for it. Have we forgotten who rules in the kingdoms of men and in the affairs of nature? Has the Lord thrown an economic storm our way that we might see His power, that we might learn again that He knows of our situation, and that we should trust in Him, not in governments and businesses?
