Genealogy in the Old Testament

Moses wrote of the genealogy of Esau, beginning with these words, “And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir. These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau. And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz” (Genesis 36:9-11).
Moses continued to show the development of Esau’s nation, which was Edom. Why did Moses reveal this information? It shows that God knows the origin of nations, and it shows the relationship between nations. You have probably said that we are all related in Adam, but you can come even further this way in time and say that we are all related in Noah.
God knows the origin of everyone you meet today and when He tells us to love our neighbor, He wants us to love our family.
