The Heart of the Matter

Jesus began the most famous sermon of all time with beatitudes. He got right into His sermon, going for the heart of the matter. The following may not be a technical definition of a beatitude, but it helps me to know what beatitudes are: Be this attitude. The first beatitude Jesus gave was this,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
(Matthew 5:3)
That must have shocked His disciples. We think poverty is a curse, but Jesus did not speak of this world’s goods; He spoke of a person’s spirit. Blessed are you if you see your spiritual need for God. If you can see that, He will give the kingdom of heaven.
Wow! If you see your poverty in spirit, He will invite you to live in the richest place ever!
