Self-Control and Focus

Matthew wrote of the time Jesus went into the wilderness, “And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry” (Matthew 4:2). He fasted ten days over a month! How did He do it?
He exercised self-control, but the root of that was focus. He did not think on eating, but on other things. He lived His whole life that way, not just those forty days. He could not have been a man who was not focused and then try to fast for forty days and nights and become a focused man during that time. That time was simply an extension of the man that He already was.
