Mourning the Condition of God's People

Micah 1:1-7 prophesied of the sins of Samaria and Jerusalem, which God’s people had turned into places of idolatry. The Lord revealed that He would make Samaria a heap of ruins. Was He glad to do this? No, for listen to Him mourn,
Therefore I will wail and howl,
I will go stripped and naked;
I will make a wailing like the jackals
And a mourning like the ostriches,
For her wounds are incurable.
For it has come to Judah;
It has come to the gate of My people–
To Jerusalem.
(Micah 1:8-9)
The destruction of Samaria would include Judah, for it sinned as the northern kingdom of Israel had. Some people see a vengeful God in the Old Testament, but He never punished with delight. It always broke His heart. He wanted His people to live right, but they insisted on worshiping false gods.
God loves you dearly, even as He did Israel and Judah, but even as His love did not prevent Him from rebuking them, so, His love for you will not prevent Him from rebuking you. Let us give ourselves to living in His holiness.
