Deeds Directed Toward God

Ephraim busied itself with things, but not the right things, whereas the tribe should have busied itself with God. He said to Ephraim through Hosea,
“They do not direct their deeds
Toward turning to their God,
For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst,
And they do not know the LORD.
(Hosea 5:4)
They did not know the Lord, because they played the harlot by going after other gods. Therefore, they did not direct their deeds toward returning to God. They should have done things that would have restored the relationship, for they were the ones who went astray, not God.
Yet, our loving God was the One who made the efforts to restore the relationship with Ephraim, even as He does with us.
That should humble us. We go astray, but He directs deeds toward turning to us that He might have us as His children. Praise God!
