Integrity Versus Perversity

To read the Bible in a year, read Proverbs 19 and 20.
Would you much rather be poor, living a life of integrity or speak perversity and be a fool? I think I know your answer. Solomon wrote,
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
(Proverbs 19:1)
This is a good example of what Jesus taught, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15).
Man admires the wealthy and despises the poor, because in the minds of man the only thing that matters is materialism.
However, God values spiritual qualities above the qualities of this world. Therefore, He teaches us to strive for integrity.
Why is the man of integrity better? He who has integrity has true riches. Though poor, in time people will respect him.
What good are perverseness and foolishness? A man maybe wealthy, but through the perverseness of his lips he will be counted a fool.
