Law and Freedom

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 7.
We cannot get away from it. Anywhere we go, we are under laws. Not only is this true in the world, but it is also true in the spirit. When we unite ourselves with Jesus Christ, it is because we have separated ourselves from some other law under which we lived. For example, the Jew could not be under both the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ. Therefore, the Jew died to the Law of Moses and was then free to be joined to Christ.
Paul illustrated this with the marriage law. A woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but when he dies, she is free to remarry, otherwise, if she marries another man while the first still lives, Paul argued that she is known as an adulteress (Romans 7:1-3). Then Paul concluded, “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another–to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God” (Romans 7:4).
Enjoy your life with Christ. Make the most of it. Even as you would not be happy just to exist with your spouse, so do not be happy just to exist with Christ.
