They Needed Priests

To read the Bible in a year, read Nehemiah 12 and 13.
Ezra rebuilt the temple and Nehemiah rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem, but those things did no good without the priests of God to serve in the temple. Therefore, Nehemiah 12 shows the gathering of the priests and Levites, “Now these are the priests and the Levites who came up with Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua: Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra…These were the heads of the priests and their brethren in the days of Jeshua. Moreover the Levites were Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah who led the thanksgiving psalms, he and his brethren…During the reign of Darius the Persian, a record was also kept of the Levites and priests who had been heads of their fathers’ houses in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua…And the heads of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with thei r brothers across from them, to praise and give thanks, group alternating with group, according to the command of David the man of God…These lived in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe” (Nehemiah 12:1–26). Priests had direct access to God. Does that sound important?
Likewise, what is the world without priests? We have a High Priest, who is Jesus Christ, and below Him are His disciples, all of whom are priests. The world needs us. Pray to God for the world. Offer up praise and thanksgiving to God that we might be the salt of the earth and extend the life of the world a little longer.
