A Special Piece of Clothing

To read the Bible in a year, read John 19:23–42.
Do you have a favorite piece of clothing? Perhaps you treasure it because someone you love gave it to you. It might be an especially expensive item of clothing. Or someone took extra time, effort, and skill to make it so that no other piece of clothing matches it. Jesus had one item that He possessed on earth like that, “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece. They said therefore among themselves, “‘Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,’ that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says:
‘They divided My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.’
Therefore the soldiers did these things” (John 19:23, 24). The soldiers saw the value of that tunic and did not destroy it, but each wanted it and so they gambled for it.
Jesus gave His body to the Father for us and the one thing He owned, He gave up also, because He loved both His Father and you.
