The Leaders Listened to the King

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Chronicles 1-3.
David died, but his son Solomon reigned over Israel. The Bible says, “Now Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and exalted him exceedingly” (2Chronicles 1.1). Do not miss this point: God made Solomon king, although he was young and inexperienced. Therefore, the leaders in Israel listened to Solomon. The next verse says, “And Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every leader in all Israel, the heads of the fathers’ houses” (v. 2). Back then the people recognized that God made Solomon king, but today, probably in most of the nations, if not all of them, where you all live, we elect our leaders. Nevertheless, God puts our leaders in place. However, many people fail to recognize that, believing that since they voted for the person in office, they have freedom to treat the leader any way they desire. Friends, even if we disagree with what our national leader does, we still have to acknowledge that he is in place by God’s power. We should be like the people of ancient Israel and the leaders at that time also, who listened to Solomon and paid him due respect.
