Jesus Ignored the Scribes and Pharisees

To read the Bible in a year, read John 8:1-20.
Jesus stayed outside of Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives (John 8:1), but He went to the temple in the morning and taught the people (v. 2). Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman taken in the very act of adultery and stated what the Law of Moses said should be done to her, but they wanted to know what Jesus thought should be done (vv. 3-5). They had no intention of learning from Jesus, but sought a way to trap Him (v. 6a). Watch what Jesus did, “But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear” (v. 6b). Oh man, can you imagine doing that to those powerful men? Jesus just ignored them! That took courage, but Proverbs 26:4 says,
Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest you also be like him.
(Proverbs 26:4)
Yet, Jesus did eventually answer them, because they pestered Him. He answered because Solomon said again,
Answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
(Proverbs 26:5)
Do not tangle with a skunk lest you smell like him, but if he does not go away, you have to do something to get rid of him.
