A Good Prophet and an Evil Queen

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 19 and 20.
Elijah had all the false prophets killed, and King Ahab told his wife Jezebel about it (1Kings 19:1). She was as happy about that as momma bear is when her cubs have been robbed. Then she sent a message to the prophet, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time” (v. 2). She set her heart to do to Elijah as he had done to her prophets and she even gave herself a time limit, showing him her ferocity. She would not sleep until he was dead. He knew he was a dead man and the Bible says, “And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there” (v. 3). There is a time to fight, as he did against the false prophets, and there is a time to run, as he did with Jezebel. Wise is the person who knows when to fight and when to flee.
You may want to pray to God for the wisdom to know when to do each.
