He Revised History

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 12 and 13.
Revisionists have been rewriting history for a long time. First Kings chapter 12 shows an incident when King Jeroboam did it. Shortly after Israel divided from Judah, King Jeroboam feared that his people might go back to King Rehoboam and Judah. Therefore, Jeroboam devised a plan to keep the people under his rule. He created his own religion, based partly on the true religion and on Israel’s history.
“Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, ‘It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!'” (1Kings 12:28). Jeroboam knew that:
1. Jerusalem was a special city for worship
2. God had delivered Israel
3. Israel had been enslaved in Egypt
However, he changed things slightly, providing golden calves to represent gods, not merely God, who had delivered Israel. Jeroboam provided enough accurate information that his revisionism seemed believable. Sadly, most of Israel believed him.
Avoid deception by knowing your Bible. You are doing the right thing by meditating in the Scriptures day and night. It is also a good idea to be aware of the true history of your nation and especially of the church. Beware of revisionism.
