Preconceived Ideas Lead to Twisting the Scriptures

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 20:27-47.
When you approach the word of God, you have to clear your mind and be ready to accept whatever it says, even if it goes contrary to what you believe. The Sadducees did not do that and it led them to deny the resurrection (Luke 20:27). They believed that there was neither spirit, nor angel. If that be the case, there can be no resurrection. They also believed a man could have seven wives simultaneously, but a woman could not have seven husbands simultaneously. Therefore, when they read the Law of Moses that if a husband died without children, his brother should take his wife, marry her, and have children by her (v. 28), they figured if that happened seven times, to where a woman ended up marrying seven brothers (vv. 29-32), it would not work in the resurrection. They said to Jesus, “Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife” (v. 33). In their minds, that disproved the resurrection.
Jesus completely blew them away with His answer. Be sure to read it.
Now, do you have some preconceived ideas that you expect the Scriptures to support? Have you tried to twist Scripture to fit what you want it to say? Clear your mind and accept whatever the Holy Spirit teaches in the Scriptures.
