The Three Depressing Ds

To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 22-24.
Saul pursued after David, but he hid himself, going to a cave. His family went there also, for their lives were in danger as well (1Samuel 22:1). Look who also joined David, “And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him” (v. 2). Those in distress, in debt, and discontented found in David a reason for hope. Things were not good in the kingdom of Israel as Saul was bent on destroying David and anyone who allied with him. Saul had also digressed further into sin, taking Israel with him. However, David loved God and did every possible to follow Him. People could see that and wanted to be with David, even if it meant forfeiting their lives.
Are you distressed about something? Are you in debt? Are you discontented with the world? Run to Jesus Christ. Hide with Him in the cave, which is the church. He gives you hope and while it may be rough for awhile, you will eventually shine with Him in His kingdom.
