From Full to Empty to Full Again

To read the Bible in a year, read Ruth.
Poor Naomi. She lost much, but she gained more than she ever imagined she could. After her husband and two sons died, she returned to her homeland, the land of Israel. When she arrived, her hometown was excited to see her, but she expressed the bitterness of her heart, and said, “I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?” (Ruth 1:21). She came back empty only in the sense that she no longer had her husband and sons, but she came back with a devoted daughter-in-law. That daughter-in-law remarried, and considered her son as the grandson of Naomi. Moreover, that grandson had a son and that son had a son, who was King David.
Naomi, through her kindness, attracted her daughter-in-law Ruth, who became the great-grandmother of David, and they are all in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Was Naomi empty? Well, yes, but she became fuller than she ever imagined.
I wonder what God has in store for you, even if you have experienced great loss.
