They Could Have Been Great

To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 3 and 4.
Numbers 3 begins telling the names of Aaron’s sons who ministered with him. Of course, that included the names of Nadab and Abihu (Numbers 3:1-3). Sadly, Moses went on to write, “Nadab and Abihu had died before the LORD when they offered profane fire before the LORD in the Wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests in the presence of Aaron their father” (v. 4). Now we know the names of Nadab and Abihu infamously, but we could have known their names famously. Their brothers ended up going down in history as the high priests to follow their father.
Nadab and Abihu could have been great, but now we only remember them for offering profane fire to the Lord. How sad.
Do not harm your name by an act of profaneness, but always follow the Lord with all your might.
