A Place More Important Than Canaan

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 19-21.
Three months after escaping Egypt, the children of Israel arrived in the wilderness of Sinai (Exodus 19:1). This became a camping spot along the way to their new homeland, the Land of Canaan. However, it was no ordinary camping place. In fact, it was more important than the Land of Canaan itself. Moses wrote that they had left Rephidim and gone to Sinai, and camped there (v. 2a). Then He wrote, “So Israel camped there before the mountain” (v. 2b). This was the mountain of God, the mountain where God came down from heaven, manifesting great glory for Israel, speaking with Moses, and giving the Law.
Israel set their sights on Canaan, but they had a surprise on the way. They met God. You have set your sights on heaven, but what surprises await you on the way?
