A Meeting at a Well

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 29 and 30.
Many things happened at wells in the Bible. Jesus meet a Samaritan woman at a well and converted her to the truth. Moses met his future wife at a well. And so did Jacob. He fled from his brother and arrived at a well in a foreign land (Genesis 29.1-3). He met some men there and asked them if they knew his relative Laban (v. 4-8). They knew him and they pointed out quickly that Laban’s daughter, Rachel was on the way to water her sheep. When she arrived at the well, Jacob watered the sheep for her (v. 9, 10), and, “Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept. And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s relative and that he was Rebekah’s son. So she ran and told her father” (v. 11, 12).
Jacob fled from his brother who planned on killing Jacob when their father died. Jacob fled not knowing what he would find. When he finally arrived at the place where his extended family lived, he was relieved to find family and his emotions overwhelmed him. He fled one family member out of fear and met another family member soon out of love. Later they married.
We never know who we are going to meet on a given day and how that person will change our lives or how we are going to change their lives. What shall happen with the meetings you have with people today?
