God Chose Jonah

To read the Bible in a year, read Jonah.
God needed a prophet to go to the city of Nineveh. The prophet would warn them that their wickedness had gotten to the point that God had to destroy the city. God chose Jonah, “Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai” (Jonah 1:1). God revealed why He sent the prophet to the city, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me” (v. 2).
However, Jonah did not want to go. Watch what he did next, “But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD” (v. 3).
God knew that Jonah would act this way, nevertheless, God chose Jonah. The prophet needed to know that this was not his world. God rules in the nations and He uses whom He desires to communicate His truth to the nations. Jonah should have known that. He should have also known that he could not flee from the presence of the Lord.
Yet, when we humans get something in our minds or when we just do not want to do something, we can go against everything we know is the truth.
