Israel Wanted God's Enemies

To read the Bible in a year, read Hosea 12-14.
Listen to whom Ephraim wanted to do business with,
Ephraim feeds on the wind,
And pursues the east wind;
He daily increases lies and desolation.
Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians,
And oil is carried to Egypt. (Hosea 12:1)
Ephraim kept pursuing vain things that did not profit them. Not only that, but Ephraim made a covenant with Assyria and did business with Egypt. This was far more important to Ephraim than faithfulness to the Lord. Therefore, as we noted in yesterday’s reading, God would send Ephraim as captives to Egypt and Assyria. They insisted on going there instead of remaining loyal to the Lord, so, He would give them what they thought they wanted.
We can be stubborn. We think we want something. Then God gives it to us and we regret it. Let us keep our eyes on the Lord and let Him give us what He knows is best.
