Listen to the Preaching of God's Word

To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 1-3.
Zechariah preached after the Babylonian Empire fell and Persia ruled, who allowed the Jews to return to their own land (Zechariah 1:1). He began by saying, “The LORD has been very angry with your fathers” (v. 2). However, the anger did not necessarily extend to Zechariah’s generation, for the Lord did tell them to return to Him and He would return to them (v. 3), warning them not to be like their fathers who would not repent (v. 4).
What was the consequence of their impenitence? The Lord just asked the present generation what happened to their wicked fathers and to the holy prophets? (v. 5). Sure enough, the words of the prophets who spoke by the mouth of the Lord overtook those previous generations (v. 6a). Many of those who did survive the Babylonian attack, confessed,
“Just as the LORD of hosts determined to do to us, According to our ways and according to our deeds, So He has dealt with us” (v. 6b)
What shall we learn from this? God says what He means and means what He says! Are you giving heed to His words found in the New Testament?
