There Were Palm Trees

Read the Bible in a year by reading Ezekiel 40 today.
God, through a glorious Man (Ezekiel 40:3), showed Ezekiel a temple. In verses 6-16, the Man started measuring everything and Ezekiel gave us the dimensions. Interestingly, the last sentence of verse 16 says, “And on each gatepost were palm trees.” What picture comes into your mind? Palm trees grow in sunny warm places where there is water. Now that sounds nice. As I write this, autumn has hit the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon, USA. We have morning fog, keeping the temperature in the 30s (Fahrenheit) until the fog burns off, then it warms up into the 40s or 50s. That’s not bad, but sand, palm trees, a light warm breeze, and plenty of sunshine also sound real nice.
Ezekiel saw the horrors of an army invading his nation, but God showed a new temple and a picture of comfort. Things can be bleak, but God has wonderful things stored up for you, if you continue to walk in His grace.
