What Is Your Number One Boast?

Read the Bible in a year by reading Ezekiel 24-26 today.
The Jews misplaced their affections, and so God spoke to Ezekiel that he was to say to them, “Speak to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, your arrogant boast, the desire of your eyes, the delight of your soul; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword”‘” (Ezekiel 24:21).
The temple in Jerusalem became the pride of Judah’s strength rather than the One who met them in the temple. This structure was beautiful to behold and so it delighted their souls. Yes, the temple was a delight to the eyes, but its beauty was symbolic of the One who dwelt there. Solomon beautified the temple as God’s home and the place where He met the priests. Therefore, their affections should have been on Him first, but they thought more of the temple than they did of God.
God has given to each of us gifts. Do we take more pride in those things than we do in our relationships with God? Jesus Christ died on the cross that we might have peace with God and all the nice gifts that come along in life are extras that He has given to us. Therefore, let us put nothing before Him, but enjoy all things because of Him.
