God Had to Destroy the Destroyer

Read the Bible in a year by reading Jeremiah 49 and 50 today.
Sinful Judah refused to repent. God did many things to persuade His beloved nation to repent, all to no avail. Therefore, He sent the mighty Babylonians against her to destroy the nation, including the temple and to take most of the survivors as captives to Babylon. Yet, seventy years later God had to destroy Babylon, more so than He did Judah. Jeremiah 50:11 reveals why,
Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, You destroyers of My heritage, Because you have grown fat like a heifer threshing grain, And you bellow like bulls… (Je.remiah 50:11). Simply because God used Babylon did not mean that He was happy with everything that Babylon did. Likewise, we may do what God wants done, but that does not mean He is happy with everything that we do. If God uses us to perform an unpleasant task, such as rebuking someone, let us not rejoice in putting that person down, but let us always remember that we have our own sins and we are also in need of God’s grace and mercy that come only through Jesus Christ.
