Do Not Read Over the Salutations Quickly

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Timothy 1 today. Do you read the opening verse or verses quickly so that you can get to the point of a New Testament letter? Does it seem to be a superfluous part of the letter? Oh, it is not. The Holy Spirit inspired the greetings as much as He did the rest of the letter. Therefore, read those words of introduction with deep thoughtfulness as you would the rest of the letter.
Paul began his first letter to Timothy, saying, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope” (1Timothy 1:1). If you read over that quickly, you will miss that Paul called our hope the Lord Jesus Christ. Shall we read that thoughtlessly so we can get to the meat of the letter? Hey, if knowing the Lord Jesus Christ as our hope does not constitute meant, I confess, I do not know what does!
Repeat to yourself today that Jesus is your hope.
