A Gutsy Move

Read the Bible in a year by reading Jeremiah 27 and 28 today. Jeremiah prophesied of the Babylonian attack on Jerusalem and the things associated with it, but another prophet, a false prophet, made a gutsy move and said, “Within two full years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the LORD’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon” (Jeremiah 28:3). Two years was not much time. What would Hananiah, the false prophet, do after the two years came to pass and nothing changed? If he had gone further out, he would have made a safer move, then again, he was trying to gain favor with the people and the leaders. Therefore, he could not wait any longer than two years. They wanted to hear and to see good news right away.
Be careful of what people tell you God will or will not do. Be sure that they speak harmoniously with the Scriptures, for if they do not, reject what they say. Accept only what the word of God and accept only him who speaks in accordance with the word of God.
