Exchanging Gods

Read the Bible in a year by reading Jeremiah 1 and 2 today.
Shall we go from great glory to insignificant glory? Listen to what God said about His people,
“Has a nation changed its gods,
Which are not gods?
But My people have changed their Glory
For what does not profit.” (Jeremiah 2:11)
Look at the idolatrous nations of the world, He said. Do you see them exchanging their idols for things that are not idols? Of course not, because they cling to their idols, believing them to be gods. They would not think of leaving something they believe is divine for something that is not divine.
Yet, Israel and Judah left the glory of the true God of heaven, for the false and dead gods of the nations. God implied that just did not make sense.
What about when Christians leave the church for any reason? They do the same. They leave the only thing that profits for something that does not profit.
Let us never turn our backs on our God, because He never turns His back on us.
