Keep That Ax Sharp

Read the Bible in a year by reading Ecclesiastes 10-12 today.
Hard work blesses our bodies, but if we overwork, frustration sets in. Working hard, but efficiently makes us feel good about the work we are doing. Solomon observed, “If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success” (Ecclesiastes 10:10). Breaking out in a sweat, getting the heart pumping, expanding the lungs, it all feels good, but if you have to keep doing something over and over again because you could not get it to work the first time, discourages us and makes us angry.
Therefore, take the time to sharpen the ax. Do what maintenance you have to do to keep things running smoothly. Does that take a little extra time? Yes, but working inefficiently takes even more time. This applies to the ax and anything we use. Once you see the truth of that, see the truth of keeping yourself sharp spiritually. Make time to pray. Make time to read Scripture and to think on its message. Make time to worship God. You will be a better person for it, your
wisdom will increase and that will bring success.
