A Sickly King

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Kings 1 and 2 today
I mentioned in a previous devotional that David was often sick, even to the point of death. We do not know what his illnesses were, but look at the opening verse of First Kings, “Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm” (1Kings 1:1). David died when he was 70. So, the time to which the writer here alludes, David must have been in his late 60s. He was old and he had a problem that many old people have, the inability to get warm.
It is sad to see such a mighty man as David reduced to such a weak condition; nevertheless, although he was great, he was nothing more than a man. Even the greatest among men, eventually are reduced to weakness until they die.
Do what you can while on the earth and if you are blessed to do great things, just remember that you are still a man or a woman and nothing more. The time will come to depart this life. The best thing to do is to be prepared for that departure.
