Making Things Right with God

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Samuel 7-9 today.
Israel sinned and God delivered them into the hands of the Philistines. Israel realized that they had sinned and here is what they did, “So they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the LORD. And they fasted that day, and said there, ‘We have sinned against the LORD.’ And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah” (1Samuel 7:6). Look at what they did:
1. They came together to approach the Lord as one.
2. They poured out water before the Lord, showing symbolically that they were
pouring themselves out before the Lord.
3. They fasted that day.
4. They confessed their sin plainly without excusing it or rationalizing it.
5. Their leader judged them.
These are good examples for us.
If you have sinned with someone else and he is also in agreement that he has sinned, then show the Lord somehow that you are giving yourselves wholly to Him, fast for a day, confess your sin without trying to explain it away, and listen to a wise man in the church who will tell you what to do.
